Colorado Alpha

Live Ever, Die Never...

The Colorado Alpha chapter of the Phi Kappa Psi Fraternity is a brotherhood of men devoted to friendship, justice, and the pursuit of education and learning. Refounded in 1998, Colorado Alpha has been growing steadily into one of the largest houses on the CU campus. With nearly 70 members, Phi Psi offers CU students a unique opportunity to be part of a social network that will extend far into your future.

There is no such thing as a typical Phi Psi. Our members come from all over the United States, strongly representing California, Arizona, New York, New Jersey, Washington DC and more. Furthermore we are comprised of a very diverse set of majors and schools including business, architecture, and arts & sciences students. This said; our fundamentals are all the same. We are first and foremost gentlemen, scholars, and athletes.

The Phi Kappa Psi brotherhood is a strong and friendly bond nurtured through the process of sharing a uniquely positive collegiate experience. Our chapter shares the desire to achieve greatness not only in our University of Colorado community, but in the greater community beyond. An assortment of community service and philanthropic events are one avenue we utilize to help our community. We feel that sports are another important aspect of a healthy college career and an exceptional tool for creating lasting friendships and developing our brothers into good Phi Psis. To utilize this philosophy our house has intramural teams in virtually every sport offered at CU including ice hockey, flag football, basketball, soccer, and volleyball. We also have members on the CU lacrosse and rugby teams. Phi Psi is a social fraternity and our chapter finds the social characteristics of Fraternity life very important. Each semester we host Sorority exchanges, in-house parties, and events at third party venues – all these events are designed to emphasize the idea that college should be an enjoyable experience.

The Phi Kappa Psi chapter house has recently undergone a $1.5 million renovation. The house holds 30 live-in members and is equipped with wireless internet, common use plasma and projection screen TVs, a restaurant-style kitchen, underground parking, and spacious rooms. The Phi Kappa Psi Fraternity has the largest national endowment fund of any other national fraternity, nearly $19 million. All of this was made possible by our exceptional alumni base. Some notable Phi Psis include actor Peter Graves, John F. Kennedy Jr., NY mayor Michael Bloomberg, pro baseball player Jeff Cirillo, actor Zach Braff, and the founders of Ticketmaster, the Dallas Cowboys, Yahoo, and Excite. Our ranks have included over 100 members of congress and even President Woodrow Wilson.

HISTORY OF PHI KAPPA PSI

Founded over 150 years ago, Phi Kappa Psi boasts a rich history at many of the nation's top colleges and universities.

William H. Letterman and Charles P.T. Moore founded Phi Kappa Psi in the little college town of
Canonsburg, Pennsylvania, when they were nursing their stricken friends during an epidemic oftyphoid fever at their college. It was through these long night vigilsthat an appreciation of the great joy of serving others came into theirlives.

Calling a number of others to join them, a Brotherhood was founded on February 19, 1852. Itflourished, and gradually extended to other colleges and universitiesthroughout the country. Idealists all, these founders of Phi Kappa Psitaught a new fraternity - a Fraternity that would complement the workof the university by cultivating those humanities without which theeducated man fails of his greatest usefulness.

At the time of our founding,
Jefferson Collegewas considered one of the "Big Three" in what was known as the"Jeffersonian Cradle." The other two institutions comprising thisgroup, Harvard and Princeton, were of very nearly equal size and equal high esteem. These institutions all graduated predominantly ministers, lawyers andphysicians from an academic curricula based in classical literature, religious doctrine and basic sciences.

Phi Kappa Psi recognizesthe need and value of the best and broadest education possible andencourages that goal within our membership. But unless actuated by aproper love for and service to mankind, the educated man may oftenwaste his talents. It is to counteract this tendency that Phi Kappa Psiwas founded to encourage the best in men, to inspire and assist them toreach their potential as students, brothers, men and citizens.
